OUR STORY
I am based in Walsall in the West Midlands and have been obsessed with guitars for over 30 years. I tried to be a "normal person" and work an office job, which I did for 25 years, it very nearly drove me mad to be honest. My only respite was playing in bands and buying guitars, amps and pedals (which I did A LOT to try and fill the gaping hole in my life).
I often bought broken or run down gear that I could open up and mess with to figure out how it all worked, and what bits of what gear made "great tone".
Over the decades of tonal exploration I've built up a wide range of skills and experience, then in 2018, after many epiphanies I had to admit to myself that the day job was never going to make me truly happy, so I walked away from the rat-race and started setting up C-Jay's Guitars & Amps.
My activities over the last few years have led me to focus mainly on Amplifier and Pedal restoration, repairs and modifications. I have worked on many different amplifiers over the years, solid state, valve / tube, vintage point to point, modern PCB...etc. That said I can set up a guitar to a very high standard, and am great at installing pickups and the like, but I stop short of offering luthier grade work like re-finishing, fret dresses and re-fretting, there are people out there that will do this much better than me, and I am always happy to point people in the right direction.
